BIBLIA NEERLANDICA -- BIBLIA, Dat is de gantsche H. Schrifture, vervattende alle de Canonijcke Boecken des O. en des N. Testaments. (Met) De Boecken genaemt Apocryphe. Dordr., (etc.), H., J. & P. Keur, M. Doornick, & P. Rotterdam, 1703-29. 4 parts in 2 vols. (19), 302; (2), 134; (12), 164; (2), 66 lvs. W. engr. ti. & 6 double-p. engr. maps (incl. map of the world by Stoopendaal) and 212 engr. plates, of which 19 double-page. Lge-fol. Cont. cf. over wooden brds., bosses of brass on all corners, brass clasps and catches. (Both vols. skilfully rebacked (in the year 2001): remnants of spine NT laid down, some age-toning/mild foxing throughout, some unobtrusive stains in the margins in places, but a fine set).

Monumental 'Keur Bible', interspersed with extra plates from "Figures de la Bible" and "Figures qui représentent les évenemens les plus mémorables du Nouveau Testament", The Hague, P. de Hondt, 1728, consisting of 2 engr. titles (one preceding the Old, the other preceding the New Testament), and 212 full-p. and double-p. engravings, i.a. after Hoet, Houbraken, Picart, etc. This Bible was named after Jacques Saurin, a French minister who became famous for his eloquent sermons, who wrote the captions (in 6 languages!) beneath the prints. For obvious reasons this Bible is also known as the Pieter de Hondt Print Bible. With (in both volumes present) a large 'bookplate' stating that Hendrik en Aeltjen Hesselink were the owners in 1740. - Cf. Poortman, Bijbel & prent, p. 140-5.
