'Der Weißkunig' is an idealised biography of Emperor Maximilian I by M. Treitzsauerwein. The work, illustrated by Hans Burgkmaier, Leonhard Beck, Hans Schäufelein, and Hans Springinklee, was completed between 1514-16, but remained unpublished. The blocks were rediscovered in 1775 and published in Vienna. The woodcuts present here depict two events: "Maximilian obliges John, Duke of Cleves, Chief of the Rebels of Utrecht, to renounce the league, 1484" (monogrammed H(ans) B(urgkmaier) in the block) and "The Soldiers of Maximilian make a sally from Hulst, and defeat the Flemish Rebels, the 2nd of May 1488" (without monogram). - Graesse VI, 193.
