BOLSWARD -- CNOOP, Wopko (1740-1801). "Proeve over 't Nut der Natuurbeschouwingen. Voorgelezen in Collegio Philosophico dicto binnen Bolsward den 23 Jan. 1768". -- And: "Vervolg op de voorgaande Proeve of Ontwerp eener geregelde Oeffening Der Proef-ondervindelijke Natuurkunde en Wijsbegeerte geschikt naar den omstandigheden van ons Genootschap". N.d. -- Ms. on paper, paginated 1-13 and 1-10. 4°. Cont. wrps.

Wopko Cnoop (1740-1801) was a Mennonite manufacturer of garden jewelry and sugar pots, a tanner, and patriot, who for his actions during the Patriot period in Bolsward was banished for ten years from the province of Friesland. In April 1778 an 'Oeconomische Tak' was established in Bolsward, which was part of the 'Hollandse Maatschappij der Wetenschappen'. His brother-in-law, the doctor Nicolaus Belkmeer (mentioned in this manuscript), was one of the founders, his half-brother, the lawyer Taco Mesdag, became treasurer. This lecture in two parts in Cnoop's own hand seems to prelude to the founding of this society.
