ROTTERDAM -- PETITION/LETTER in Dutch by Levie Been, sexton of the Jewish Community "bhinne de Stath van Rotterdam". N.d. (c. 1760?). Ms. on paper in a legible hand, 2 lvs, r° and v°.

The sexton complains in his letter that rogues have hung a rotting pig ("een Schiedams Beest, een Bigge") on his door during 'luilak' ("Lylakken feest") in the foregone year. The pig "stonk als een sthilletje dat in geen zwei jaren is staan gekoomen gereumd te worden". With transcription in manuscript. He pleads with the magistrates for help so that it will not happen again. The letter has no date, but speaks of "de tans opgerigte Burgerschitterij", this Civilian Guard was founded in 1760.
