CELESTIAL MAP -- "PLANISPHÆRIUM CŒLESTE". (Augsburg, 1730). Etching by M. Rein in cont. hand colouring. 500 x 590 mm. (Small white stain at the foot of central fold, thin brown border all around due to former framing, v° side w. rep. in 2 places).

"A diagram in the upper left corner represents day and night on earth, with appropriate quotations from Genesis; the diagram in the upper right shows the monthly orbit and illumination of the moon. The five inset circular diagrams along the bottom represent the monthly orbit and illumination of the moon, the Tychonic planetary hypothesis, the Copernican planetary hypothesis, the Ptolemaic planetary hypothesis, and the relation between the annual orbit of the sun and the seasons."
